About 'Flowers in a Vase' by Harmen Steenwyck

Although it looks spontaneous, none of the flowers you view in this print were painted at the same time, because they all bloomed in different seasons. 'Flowers in a Vase' (1789) is composed of various sketches that Paulus Theodorus van Brussel drew of each flower whenever it was in bloom. Once all sketches were done, he painted them together as one stunning bunch, creating this final masterpiece.
